Steampunk Builds

I have considered building a Steampunk styled PC for several years, I recently inherited a lot of brass and other components from my great uncle who was a bit of a hoarder. This has spurred me on to begin building. I started thinking about the PC build and this has inspired me to begin a few other projects.

A bit about me and a lot about the project:

I am Pentecost, don't expect me to ever reveal my name or my face on here, instead I will post the progress of my Steampunk styled PC build and occasionally other projects I have on the go. I was a student at the University of Sheffield studying civil engineering. I love music and will confess to being a bit of an audiophile, but my real passion is making things, models, drawings, designs, electronic projects and buildings in google sketchup. I spend a lot of time on my computer, but I am not a gamer.

The aim of my current project is to build a Steampunk styled PC or more correctly a PC case, unlike many similar projects I intend to make it possible to exchange any or all of the electronic components within the case (as is possible with an off the shelf case). This will mean that despite it's Victorian styled exterior my PC can always be kept fully up to date and my hours of work on the case shouldn't be wasted when the components are obsolete in two years time.

Wherever possible I will be using recycled, upcycled and re-purposed second hand items for this project, this is partly to keep costs down, partly for sustainability reasons but mainly because nothing make a machine look old like using genuinely aged components. The only time I will look to using new components is for electronics required to work, this is purely from a reliability point of view.
